The Boston Audissey

One of my birthday presents from Paul was an MP3 tour of Boston from Audissey Guides. We hadn't had a chance to use it yet and since our time here is ticking away, we made the time to take the tour on Saturday night. It ended up being a Farewell to Boston walking tour for us.

Paul even dressed up for the occasion, which prompted a family of tourists to ask us directions near Quincy Market!

On the way to the starting point of the tour, we crossed over the Charles River while on the Red Line. This is the route I take to work everyday and was often a part of my commute in past years here. It is a beautiful view that I never grew tired of or took for granted.

We passed by many sites that were included in the tour and some bonus sites like steaming manholes. Too bad we are out of time or else we might want to visit this place:

This seems to be the city's attempt to prevent any further manhole incidents:

When we passed through Haymarket it was dusk and the market was finished. The leftover heaps of trash and spoiled food were being cleaned up by a BULLDOZER! That is a serious amount of trash. The bulldozer is the blurry object in this picture:

Just past the Haymarket nastiness we got our first look at the park that the city has built as part of the Big Dig project. We got some pizza slices from the North End and ate them in the park. It was a really welcome bit of quiet and calm at the edge of the craziness that is the North End on a weekend evening.

One of the stops on the tour is the location where the Fisherman's Feast is held each year and it just so happened that we were there when it was being held. Luck must have been on our side. Here is a blurry night shot of the famed Madonna (not the Material Girl, the Holy One):

We really enjoyed the tour and would recommend The Audissey Guides. We would also recommend visiting Boston. It is a great town.

  1. Dan and I used to meet at the Hub Pub for dinner once a week when we were first dating. I am sad you are leaving Boston when I barely got to know you! :( I'll look forward to reading about your Midwest adventures... and eat some lutefisk and lefse for me.
