Eat Your Veggies

I recently met someone who is a vegan. We were working a temp job together and had plenty of time to chat. We talked about food and pets and in the process I learned that she fosters dogs in her home. She was telling me about how a few of her dogs are really old but still healthy and she thinks it is partly due to the fact that she feeds them a vegetarian diet.

She uses the stalks of chard and collard greens as treats in place of feeding them rawhides. I had some collards in the fridge, so I gave it a try. It was a hit with the pups. Each dog had their own veggie eatin' style. Tchazo quickly chomps it down, while Jack is a bit more delicate, biting off any remaining leafy parts and then chewing on the stalk.

  1. Vegematarian dogs. Amazing.

  2. My mom's dog loves carrots. Has since he was a pup. He's decidedly a non-vegetarian dog, but give him a carrot and he's happy for hours.

  3. Cute! Nimitz seems to not process beef well but we keep him on other meats and are adding in vegetable treats. I tried to give him a bit of carrot yesterday and he looked at me like I was trying to poison him though.
